Well I had a busy week last week in the chasing world, chasing everyday from Monday through Saturday. Monday I was up in Woodward watching a supercell go absolutely bonkers on the warm front, catching 6 tornadoes in a span of 2 hours in about 20 miles. At one time, I had 3 on the ground at once surrounding me. Unfortunately, I had major equipment failure with my camera and my Google maps on my phone, so I was basically chasing visually. I did get some footage from that day, and the video is i...

Initial Target: McLean, TX
A deep trough was digging south into the 4 corners area this day, with a sharp dryline setting up over the middle part of the TX Panhandle. Storms initially fired to the southwest of Childress, TX. We decided to setup in McLean, TX initially and...

A very potent and unseasonable severe weather event was shaping up for today, with a very impressive trough digging SE into the southern plains. With it, a 1008mb surface low setup around Lubbock. The low level jet funneled in ample moisture into NW TX/SW OK, with mid 60 dews progged for the area. Very impressive shear was sampling the area, putting the n...

I was watching this day for a while on the models to possibly be an active day. I initially thought south central Kansas southwards was the main target and play for the day. But the night before, the dryline was looking to setup further west than expected. My target then shifted, specifically from Shattuck, OK southwards towards Elk City, OK. I ...

This was the first Moderate risk chase for us. The risk was mainly for large hail and damaging winds off a line set to develop along a cold front. Embedded supercells were also a possibility, with the MDT area in a hatched 10% for tornadoes. Although the cap was tough, we were actually rolling the dice on a supercell to fire further south where EHI and CA...

INITIAL TARGET: BROWNFIELD, TX
The models were showing a marginal chance of a supercell to fire in SE NM/West TX. I was working and watching the RUC runs each hour. I figured it'd be worth to gamble when I saw 3 runs in a row break out a lone supercell on the border in a very volitile enviro...

Tornado probabilities issued by the SPC by 8am
This was going to be a good day. I just had that feeling in my gut that we'd see something good this day. The day before, supercells had developed further south, sparking supercells that produced monster 4+ inch diameter hail. I stayed h...

It was looking like a classic Spring setup, with a dryline swinging down eastern New Mexico down into west Texas. This system was a huge one, no doubt. May 21, we had some storms produce 3" diameter hail in the TX panhandle. May 22 was the huge tornado outbreak in the Dakotas including the monsterous wedge near Bowdle, SD. Bulk shear and CAPE w...

The day started off like any other day, with work. I was on a high after our big score the day before near Texline. Today looked like maybe another chance for some storms. A huge outbreak was expected in Nebraska and the Dakotas, basically luring all the chasers up there.
Storms had fired near Amarillo and moved NE towar...

Tornado threat probability issued by the SPC during mid-morning
This was the day, the first real severe weather setup of the year. Chris Rice had driven down here to chase with me from Plattsburg, Missouri (NE of Kansas City) the day before. We were confident with this setup to get tornadoes. We st...
